When you suffer from back or pelvic pain, it negatively impacts nearly every aspect of your life. Aside from the pain itself, your flexibility, muscle strength, sleep quality, and even appetite can be affected, leading to a host of other problems.
Instead of treating these issues with drugs for temporary relief, Guzzardo Chiropractic Center in Clinton Township, MI, takes a holistic approach in order to get to the root cause of the problem. We want you to be pain-free, but more importantly, we want you to stay pain-free. With over 35 years of experience helping our patients avoid drugs and invasive surgery, one of the most innovative and effective techniques we use in our practice is the Thompson Drop-Table Technique.
What is the Thompson Drop-Table Technique?
The Thompson Drop-Table Technique, more commonly called the Thompson Technique, is a spinal manipulation method that was patented in 1955 by Dr. J. Clay Thompson. A chiropractor uses a specially-designed drop table that is segmented during adjustments to minimize the amount of force necessary while still allowing thorough correction. Even though the Thompson Technique is most often used for adjusting the pelvic area, lower back, and mid-back, it can also be employed on the legs, feet, hands, and arms.
Patients lie face-down on a constructed table, and as the chiropractor applies sudden thrusts of motion to the area being worked on, the table segments simultaneously "drop" slightly under that region of the body. This drop drastically reduces the amount of necessary torque and pressure the chiropractor must use while providing immediate relief to the patient.
The Thompson Technique and Leg Length Discrepancy
Another thing that makes the Thompson Technique especially unique is its use in analyzing leg length discrepancy, or "short leg syndrome." Oftentimes, imbalances in the nervous system lead to muscular issues, particularly in the pelvis or sacroiliac joints, which can lead to one leg appearing to be noticeably shorter than the other. Because the Thompson Drop-Table Technique is especially beneficial for the sacroiliac joints and pelvis, patients often see an immediate improvement in leg length discrepancy after just a single adjustment.
